HoA summer residency 2022

Application deadline: April 18th

Response: April 25th

Overview

House of Annetta is a new social centre for land reform and spatial justice. The project is at an early phase, where we are still testing out ideas and developing plans for the space. The culture of the space and communities that use it are still emerging. We are keen for new people to get involved, to bring new energy, direction and knowledge.

We are offering a three-month experimental residency for three-four new OR established groups/individuals. There will be no set brief/deadline from us but instead, this residency is designed and intended to support and give free access to our workspace. Participants will then be given full creative control over what they wish to explore or develop.

For context, and to seed potential ideas for proposals:

Current users of the space include IWGB, TATI, LION, members of LARC, SODAA, East End women’s museum, East End Restoration Trust, Shared Assets.

Live projects that are developing at the house include craft projects, a school for designing society, film-nights, self-taught coding club, a soup kitchen, mapping spatial justice in the area, textile project with TATI.

Proposal

Participants will be working on the first floor of the house alongside  other individuals and groups currently using the space. This opportunity welcomes artists, makers, academics working within social justice and land reform to develop their practice. This may be an idea they’ve abandoned, exploring a new skill or simply using the time to build knowledge via reading. Working hours are to be proposed by the residents and confirmed during the application process. Deskspace and a small amount of storage will be provided over the three months. There will also be a small budget available (~approximately £200, final amount tbc) that can be used to go towards expenses, public presentation or a final celebratory event. Residents will also have full access to the house resources which can be found here.

Objectives (for us and you)

  • Encourage knowledge building and community through sharing space
  • Work within an unusual space whilst developing ideas and craft
  • Connect and build new relationships with other human people
  • Potential to explore key themes of Annetta Pedretti’s many practices e.g., cybernetics, beekeeping, building craftsmanship etc.

Target Audience

  • Age 18+
  • Ideally, those living within a thirty-minute walk radius from the House of Annetta.*
  • Groups/Individuals working within spatial justice, land reform e.g., community outreach, local activist, gardening/herbalism, social architecture.
  • At this moment in time, we cannot support those with physical accessibility needs due to the current infrastructure and instability of the house.(We are in the process of raising money to address this issue in the future so the house can be fully accessible at every level.)
